The Howard League for Penal Reform combines litigation, research, campaigning, media engagement and policy work to advocate for penal reform. Their aim is to build a more humane and effective response to crime, which provides justice to all and helps reduce reoffending.

Howard League also runs the country’s only dedicated advice line for children and young people in prison, which not only provides vital advice and support, but also enables the organization to build young people’s lived experiences into their work.

Treebeard is providing unrestricted multi-year funding to the Howard League as well as a restricted grant to support its work in the run up to the 2025 Sentencing Review.
