Many migrant, black and ethnic minority women and children in the UK face multiple and complex challenges, including difficulties related to insecure immigration status, financial, emotional and psychological abuse from partners, and, critically, a lack of intersectional and culturally sensitive perspectives in existing mainstream policy. Whilst in the UK we now have a comprehensive Government definition of domestic violence, the Home Office still doesn’t fully acknowledge some of the structural barriers to justice and discrimination – which are often perpetuated in its very own institutions such as detention centres and prisons - towards women of ethnic minority and immigrant backgrounds.

P.H.O.E.B.E is an Ipswich-based charity that offers specialist advice, information, casework, advocacy and support and counselling services to more than 400 black and ethnic minority women and children every year.

Treebeard is providing core multi-year funding to P.H.O.E.B.E.
