Many Kurdish, Middle Eastern and North African (KMENA) women in the UK, often fleeing civil wars or state and gender persecution in their home countries, face devastating barriers here. These include poverty, lack of education and employment opportunities, language barriers, the navigating of UK systems and policies, and the experience of domestic abuse, along with harmful traditional practices such as FGM.

KMEWO is a “led by and for” BME women organisation providing specialist support services to women from the KMENA communities living in the UK.

KMEWO delivers a holistic range of services including specialist VAWG advocacy, counselling, employment support, and alongside this engage in wider campaigning and advocacy work to promote the human rights and quality of life of KMENA women in the UK.

Treebeard is providing core, multi-year funding to support KMEWO’s work.
