Although government has recognised the importance of research and innovation in driving productivity growth
and in delivering a 'levelling up' strategy, strategy and action is missing. Given the reliance on innovation to deliver net zero and nature recovery, central strands of research and innovation should be climate and nature.

Green Alliance's Green Innovation and Productivity Strategy will highlight the role of green projects in achieving economic and levelling up objectives. They want to clarify what green research and innovation means and why it is important; highlight what successful green innovation looks like, and identify the overlaps between net zero and productivity where both can be achieved in tandem.

Their overarching goal is to encourage HM Treasury to spend more money on environmental - or green - initiatives through innovation and productivity policies.

Treebeard has provided restricted funding to support Green Alliance's 'Greening the Economy' strategy since 2020.
