Seaweed is a true wonder crop – it promotes marine diversity, enhances water quality, absorbs nitrogen and stores carbon. It can serve as a replacement for fossil fuel dependent foods and materials, is a protein rich food source for animals and humans, and can be used in the plastics, textiles, pharma and cosmetics industries. Yet the seaweed industry in the UK is fledgling, with most seaweed imported from Asia.

From its home on the west coast of Scotland, Eco Cascade provides a primary processing service for seaweed producers and buyers. A community interest company, Eco Cascade was created to scale the emerging Scottish seaweed industry to meet commercial demand, and in the process to develop a thriving, sustainable and world-class Scottish seaweed industry.

Treebeard is providing unrestricted multi-year funding to support Eco Cascades early years.
